Winemaker Evening: Eric Jensen of Booker

March 2, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

- $76.00 – $128.00

Join us for a special evening with Eric Jensen of Booker Wines, whose Oublié Paso Robles 2014 was listed among Wine Spectator’s Top 10 Wines in 2017.

Epicurean Santa Barbara is honored to welcome Eric Jensen to our hometown for this event. He has graciously allocated wine to Epicurean Santa Barbara, even though bottles are only available to members of Booker’s wine club. Eric’s wines are effectively sold out due to the overwhelming thirst for his wines by his club members. Don’t miss this rare chance to taste and take home a bottle with our special tasting and bottle program…

“Come for the wine, stay for the winemaker, leave with a bottle!”

Guests will enjoy 4 highly rated 95+ point  wines with Eric Jensen and other like-minded club members, along with wonderfully paired passed appetizers. (Booker wines retail from $54 – $106+ a bottle.)

We will be featuring:

2016 White (white blend)

2016 Ripper (100% Grenache)

2016 Vertigo (52% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 18% Mourvedre)

2016 Fracture (100% Syrah)

This evening is a special opportunity to meet, great, eat, and celebrate great wine with one of the world’s “larger than life” characters. With his beginnings as a music event promoter in LA to his move to Paso Robles to grow grapes and make wine, he now describes himself in only the way he can… “I used to hire yard guys, now I actually am one!”

Eric and Lisa Jensen purchased 100 acres of the property in 2001 with the intent of growing the best fruit for some of the best wineries in the area. After making wine with Justin Smith (of Saxum) for five years and Stephan Asseo (of L’Aventure Wines) for two years, the Jensens decided it was time to create their own expression with Booker Vineyard. The 2005 Vintage was Booker Vineyard’s first release with the wines being made by owner Eric Jensen.

From Jeb Dunnuck, of Wine Advocate:

“While certainly the character of Paso’s winemaking motley crew, Booker Vineyard’s Eric Jensen is dead serious when it comes to wine. Creating the estate in 2005 (they planted their vineyard in 2001), today he farms one of the greatest vineyards in the appellation and his wines consistently rank in the top two or three produced in a vintage. The only drawback here is the wines are made in tiny quantities and are moved almost exclusively through his mailing list.”

“Created in 2005, owner/winemaker Eric Jenson has pushed Booker Vineyard into the top 2-3 estates in the region…the wines…are some of the most impressive releases coming out of California. While in the past, they relied on pure fruit and texture to impress, today they possess layered, elegant and complex characters paired with serious depth, richness and structure.”

The Winemaker evening takes place in a very special and unique Santa Barbara home with a view like no other. This modern home, with its large arched glass walls, features an unusual panoramic northern view looking across the bay; from Ventura in the east, along the mountains past the 154 San Marcos pass, to Gaviota in the west. Truly a sight! On the evening of this event, there will be another special event courtesy of mother nature: a spectacular moonrise over Ojai and the mountains above Carpentaria, which will light up the water of the bay, coinciding with our enjoyment of these fine wines.
